Excellent point Mike! The things workers are expected to put up with today would genuinely shock and confuse older generations who - let's be fair - understood the value of unions and did their best to keep the employer class in check.

A backlash against these practices is definitely warranted at this stage and in fact, at least in Europe, some of the shadier activities have already been legally curtailed. For example, in the aftermath of 2008, many employers would have candidates come in for unpaid "trial" weeks and then never compensate them or hire them. After many protests and demonstrations of outrage, that practice has since been outlawed and companies who even try are blacklisted.

It's all about pushing back. Power in numbers.
