For the most "advanced" capitalist country supposedly leading the way and setting the example, the US government completely turned their back on workers decades ago and has allowed corporations to dominate every aspect of social and economic life.

It's definitely by design; you don't stumble your way into this level of extreme wealth inequality - every stone in this path to hell was placed there consciously by the real people in control.....and they have ZERO intention of ever relinquishing power, regardless of the tech advances that would easily facilitate a far more equitable distribution of resources.
