From the 100s of articles I've published and books I've written, do you honestly believe I live an unexamined life? I would say, if anything, I live an over-analyzed existence, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Disillusionment is definitely not a default state; it's something that builds up over time from years of watching the chaos that is occurring all over the world and feeling powerless to do anything about it. No it's nothing new, but the sheer scale of disillusionment in Western societies today is. As a collective, we seem to have given up on even trying to fix our broken political system and economy.
When you live in a state of perpetual poverty, in spite of working ur ass off and trying ur best to keep up with the grind, you too would feel as I do and understand that this widespread malaise is a serious threat to the stability and the social fabric of society. If something doesn't change soon, after 40 years of neoliberal economics that enables structural inequality and bolsters the wealth of the 1% at the expense of the rest of us, I'm telling you there's some real trouble coming down the pike.
