I couldn't agree more....cancelling people is extremely unproductive, because in order to address the issues that face us now and in the future, we need to listen to each other and attempt to understand why a person believes what they do, and where they're coming from.
The dangerously divisive condition of US socio-political relations can be traced back to the beginning of the end of us listening and communicating effectively with one another.
I have not yet experienced a significant "cancelling" because I'm not (yet!) a well known writer and don't follow Twitter or anything like that, but I do feel a greater sense of fear and pressure around expressing concerns about current affairs and facing backlash for my work these days.
It is also very easy for me to imagine a time when I will be cancelled for advocating wealth equality, contradicting the government, fighting surveillance, or any number of other topics the establishment would like us to sit down and shut up about.
