It's extremely difficult for female artists to stay relevant past a certain age, for once a woman loses her looks she's thrown onto the proverbial rubbish heap without a second glance; "super star" or otherwise.

Deeply misogynistic and superficial aspects of popular culture dictate how the public treats women and it's honestly unbearable to watch.

Madonna has really surprised me though. Rather than injecting botox and squeezing into a school-girl outfit, I thought she would be championing the cause for middle aged women and setting an example.

Attempting to stay in that youthful phase of life well passed her prime is also legitimizing a toxic youth culture that I think we, as a society, are well ready to move away from.
