Well said Gary: there is nothing left to save here, nothing to be salvaged. The entire democratic apparatus as we know it today is in dire need of being torn down piece by piece and reconstructed into a real paradigm of collective empowerment with social welfare and well-being at the centre.
The fact that politicians today get paid at least ten times more than their constituents for doing little other than spouting nonsense and voting against our interests is a travesty and an outrage, and that's not even to mention the loot they acquire from lobbyists to do the bidding of mega-corporations.
Politicians are so untrustworthy that anyone seeking such power should be relegated and restricted to playing an administrative role only, and even then they'd need to be monitored 24/7.
I really think direct democracy could be the way forward, but we'd have one hell of a fight on our hands to topple the current regime.
The longer we fail to overhaul this system, however, the more authoritarian and domineering it becomes, so it would be better to act sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the comment!
